My two sisters and I were fortunate enough to be a part of Maestro Perez Prados last tour to Japan before he passed. The tour was in October/November of 1987 with 26 concerts all over Japan. We also appeared with him at his last Los Angeles performance that year at the Hollywood Palladium. Maestro Perez Prado was an incredible man that could walk into a room and capture the attention and respect of all without saying a word. We absolutely adored him and he treated us like family.

- Because we were so young he was very protective of us and made sure we were well taken care of. Each night at the end of the show my sisters and I would walk him down the steps of the stage and out to the audience to greet his fans. He was very frail at this time but always wanted to shake the hands of his fans. His fans were young and old and showered him with flowers and gifts. He is surely missed by all. This was most definitely an experience of a lifetime

Well, I am a Mexican film collector and can tell you that most gangster/rumbera films (1949-52 about 20% of films)) had to have a mambo song in it. At least 100 films have a dance scene or Prado doing the mambo. Many, many mambo scenes. The mambo in Mexico was a "craze! Extremely popular.

The Nephew tells me that very sadly the lady in the film, died from a massive heart attack on February 18th , her name is Raquel Maceda. The dance team on the video clip was known as Raquel y Rolando. They invented the Mambo. Prior to that she danced with his mother and they were known as "Los Caramelios Cubanos." his mom got married to his dad and the aunt teamed up with Rolando. His mom still enjoys dancing to this day,of course right now she is devastated.
