It was just a coincidence that George V was to visit India during the Indian National Congress Convention in Dec. 1911. Tagore actually wrote the poem in honour of God and it was sung during the convention. In Tagore's own words-"That Lord of Destiny (Bhagya Vidhata), that Reader of the Collective Mind of India, that Perennial Guide, could never be George V, George VI, or any other George"
