Buddy is the clear superior to Gene, but they're both great. Gene invented the wheel, but Buddy perfected it. I think they both knew who was the better of the two, but Buddy was always deferential to Gene and acknowledged his influence. Supposedly Buddy had so much respect for Gene that he would hold back during these drum battles. Even Neil Peart acknowledges both their greatness. As a matter of fact, anyone who knows a lick about drumming would HAVE TO.
