02joseph, Actually there are several tell-tale signs differentiating a cult from a religion. I don't know them all off hand but one is a charismatic leader; two is separation from family & friends and so on. They included several -perhaps all of them- here. Do a google search for the rest of the differences between the two. I'm not advocating for organized religion as I don't believe in ANY of them but they're usually more benign than cults. And, of course, some cults are worse than others, too.
