There's nothing "with him and West Virginia." Bill and Taffy Danoff wrote most of the song. They introduced it to John Denver late one night after a show, and together they finished it. John Denver was born in Roswell, New Mexico. He moved to Aspen, Colorado in 1970 when he was 27.

PROBABLY because he had been through the really ugly divorce from Ms. Simpkin and his DUI's as well. AND no record contract for years as well! NOT a happy time! BUT by '97 he was happier, looked better, and had a record deal in the works- offers from TWO different companies and was happy and more centered personally.

I'm just curious - how did he seem depressed, ill and angry? How did that get portrayed? Poor guy.
